I asked my husband the other day to write down the things that I do that irritate him. These are his exact replies to my email in his own words. Now mind you I pulled up the email and scrolled through the list and actually laughed out loud. As I read some of his replies, its funny how they relate to my replies in part one (My list.) Here is my husbands list of the top ten things that I do that drive him crazy.
Ok so I admit I said the vows, for better or for worse. I love my hubby don’t get me wrong. But when you are married to someone and it’s long past the honeymoon phase, the things you used to ignore about him will become the things that irritate you the most.
Wait was that too harsh? Did I just write that? Luckily he does not read my blog on a daily basis. Now don’t get me wrong we are talking about the love of my life, my heart, my husband, and my soldier. He works very hard and my reasons to love him list is very long. But these are literally some of the things he does that make me want to pull my hair out.
So my day begins like most people I wake up and grab by phone to see what I missed while I was sleeping. Check my Instagram feed (because I am slightly obsessed with it lately) really I am I may have a problem lol. The roll out of bed quick shower (I wish I could say I spend hours getting ready each day but that would be a lie). No time I have too much to do….Now don’t get me wrong I put makeup on and put on clothes (most of them have paint on them). You may say why do you paint in your good clothes? Well that is never my plan but as a crafty individual, I never know when I have to put another coat of paint on something or when I will get a creative burst (no time to change). Continue reading
I find farmhouse decor charming, it reminds me of a simpler lifestyle. I also love that you can mix old antique items with modern decor. Everywhere I look, whether it is Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, I am seeing farmhouse styles burning up my feeds.
I found these adorable chalkboards in craft section of Hobby Lobby. I stained the wood and painted on a few phrases. Easy to add a little touch to give a farmhouse feel to any find.
My closest Hobby Lobby to me has been about 2 hours away, until a new location open up (within a mile from my home) last week. I have always loved Hobby Lobby they have so much of well let’s be honest EVERYTHING!!!
So this article is to share some ideas of how I incorporated my Hobby Lobby finds into my new farmhouse style. For some people decorating comes easy and for others I hope this is a little bit of inspiration to push you in the right direction of where to start. Here are some tips to help you achieve that warm farmhouse feel in your home, with a simple trip to your closest Hobby Lobby.
White, Cremes, and Natural Tones
Regardless of your budget this is easy to achieve by keep your palette with whites, cremes, even grays. Farmhouse style is simple and clean so try to stick with neutral tones (you can add color in your decorative accents). I spent all weekend painting my black end tables to white. It instantly transformed my room from dark and dreary to a lighter feeling, and I love it.
Taking it back to the old days I use candles and very low-lighting. You want to maximize your natural light and still allow for lighting when you need it. I love lanterns and industrial hanging lights. Be on the look out for an old chandelier (don’t worry about color it is all cosmetic and can be transformed into a one of a kind piece). This lamp is a simple way to add farmhouse lighting to any room of your home. You can find it and similar items at Hobby Lobby this retails for $79.99 (Use 40% off Coupon if not on sale).
Incorporating Quilts, Color, & Fabrics
Nothing says farmhouse like quilts, they are gorgeous, warm, and inviting. You can find so many ways to display your quilts whether it be a ladder display or metal baskets perfectly placed in your living area. I have always loved blankets you will always find them draped behind my sitting areas. I want to ensure me and my guests can snuggle up and get warm whenever we have a minute to do so.
Cotton is my go-to (in terms of fabric) simple stripes or check patterns work perfectly for the farmhouse look. In my house I am adding some cool pops of color (such as pink and teal) with my neutral palette. I also love succulents, cotton stems, and greenery. (the greens pop well with all the whites and ivory colors) Adding accent pillows can be a good way to add color also. I love to mix and match fabrics and accents like a variety of pillows or blankets. This throw from Hobby Lobby Retails for $36.99.
Wood Accent Furniture
This sign was $5 on clearance at my hobby lobby and it was a perfect little wood accent for my end table.
Wood tables, benches, chairs, stools are the staple to a farmhouse look they help warm up any space you are trying to fill.
I picked up this Basswood Thick Country Round is a beautiful, natural bark with a smooth front and back. As you can see I used a glass bottomless hurricane purchased from Hobby Lobby to display on top of my bark round. Since it has no bottom is very easy to fill with vase fillers. This bark retails for $PRICE and the Glass Hurricane Retails for $ and the vase filler as shown retails for $9.99.
This brown wood plank tray is gorgeous and retails for $39.99 but on sale goes for as little as $20.00.
I bought this little wooden box for $4 on clearance at Hobby Lobby. I added some moss and spray painted these little bottles I found in glass section to match my lamps.
(Stems can also be found at Magnolia Market if you cannot find at local Hobby Lobby. https://shop.magnoliamarket.com/products/small-cotton-stem
I adore cotton in any form especially when used to decorate a home. In most pictures of farmhouse decor you will see a cotton wreath or cotton picks lingering. I have been searching for both for months looking through Etsy but had a hard time committing to some of the prices.
I came across this Cotton Wreath and a 6-foot cotton garland at my latest trip to Hobby Lobby. I nearly screamed in the aisle (literally I am pretty sure I was talking to myself saying “Score” and doing the happy dance).
I unwrapped the garland into individual stems, so I could use it in multiple decor pieces throughout my house.
This was a major find for me and it stopped me in my tracks for sure. I used a Hobby Lobby 40% off coupon for both on separate days. The garland retailed for $59.00 with coupon I paid $25.99. The wreath retailed for $39.99 with coupon I paid $23.00. Major saving from prices online. I was able to get 15 cotton picks off the garland.
I have been obsessed with the industrial look over the last few months. We have a friend who made us the metal piping and flanges for our new shelving unit and I just love them. I think metal looks awesome with the natural tones and the woodwork in our home. If I could put these shelves in every room of my house I would (Hey that’s a great idea I may just do that). The photos below are pictures of my new coffee bar and my shelves in my guest bathroom.
Hobby Lobby also sells many industrial type shelving and furniture accents. Check your local store or online for more options and pricing. This shelf below retails for $49.99 however on sale it is as low as $25.00.
I love these metal baskets I use them to store my extra blankets and antique vintage items for display. Hobby Lobby has a variety of metal baskets varying in price. Check out your local store or online for pricing.
Unfortunately with our military lifestyle I have not yet created my dream farmhouse kitchen (but one day I will). I truly believe the kitchen is the heart of any home. In a traditional farmhouse the kitchen brings people together.
Keep it simple with neutral tones, while adding in those perfect eclectic furnishings. I yearn for the farmhouse sink, white cabinets, plank walls, and butcher-block countertops. You can add in pot racks to incorporate some metal into your kitchen decor. Open shelving with white china accents will help you achieve a genuine farmhouse look and help you to display all those perfect pieces. I have added these pieces from Hobby lobby into my kitchen area.
This farmhouse fresh sign is adorable and adds character to any kitchen decor. Retails for $11.99.
This kitchen plank sign is simple and charming. This retails for $12.50.
I am embracing the minimalistic farmhouse look it feels lighter and looks so pretty. All these looks can be achieved on a budget and you can put your own spin on them. White has become my go-to color lately and I am so excited to share it with you!
Check out your local hobby lobby and if you don’t have one close to you check out their website for great deals.
P.S. Don’t forget there is usually always a 40% off coupon online ( I may go a few times a week to get all the items I want that are not on sale) or on you mobile device. So sign up for Hobby Lobby emails and check your coupon link before you go. Plus most of the store items are usually on sale and if something you want is not on sale this week it may be next week so stay on the look out.
I have always put so much time and effort into my guest quarters. As a women living with three boys I find myself needing one room in the house that is perfect most of the time. My guest room is very relaxing and always looks perfect, since no one is usually in there. I decided to share some of my tips on how to spruce up your guest bedroom. These extra steps will make offer your guest a beautiful and comfortable space to enjoy. Also Anticipating what your guests will need to rest will make them feel appreciated and isn’t that the goal of every host?
I love when I enter a guest room and instantly feel “at home.” So that was my main inspiration for my guest room. I love when I stay at a hotel and my every need is anticipated. From the fluffy towels ,to the complimentary tea and popcorn. So I want to make sure I offer my guests that same respect when they come to visit.
Bedding: When you walk in a bedroom, bedding is one of the first things to catch your attention, and let’s admit t’s pretty essential for a guest room. The bedding has to be functional and comfortable (while being gorgeous at the same time.) *Side note linens should be fresh and clean when guest arrive. Even if they are clean you may want to show them in the dry with some smell good dryer sheets to give them that fresh smell. It is very important to make sure you have plenty of pillows and extra blankets for your guests. Target has some beautiful quilts and bedspreads, for whatever look you are going for in your guest room. I also like to leave a throw across the bed just in case my guest needs it.
Closet & Drawer Space: I tend to store stuff in my spare room, so I make sure to clean out a closet and a few drawers before my guests arrive. You want to offer them a place to unpack and hang items if they wish to.
P.S. This is a great opportunity to leave a wrinkle remover spray (travel size) for your guests to use if they need it (Add to gift basket Cost $1.54 @ Target )
Fresh Flowers/Plants: Nothing brightens up a room like fresh flowers. I think it makes your guest feel appreciated, and it makes the room smell fresh. I am obsessed with succulents, so I have them all over my house. They are very low maintenance and work perfectly if any of your guests have allergies or are scent sensitive. *Side note a simple, fast, and inexpensive way to make a vase for fresh flowers is a few coats of chalk paint and light sanding to any mason jar. This will brighten up a room and you can change them for each season.
Magazines & Movies: I love magazines so I always have current ones on hand, which I leave out for my guests to enjoy. I also head to the Red Box and grab a few current movies, so they have something to watch when they retire for the evening.
Charging & WiFi Station: This is one of my favorite DIY projects. I made up a wi-fi password printable and framed it for my guest room. This is a cute way to share your wi-fi passwords with your guest. You can also write this up on a chalkboard if you are feeling stylish (and have good handwriting, which I do not lol.) I also like to leave my guests with a charging dock, which allows them a way to charge multiple items on one power source. This way they can recharge all their devices in one area without having to seek out multiple outlets.
This guest room printable can be found at http://www.eleganceandenchantment.com/guest-room-printables/
Snack Baskets: I enjoy making snack baskets for my guests. I always leave one on the nightstand, full of their favorite treats and a few bottles of water. I think this is super thoughtful, and offers your guests a late night snack or treat. This comes in handy especially if they are dealing with a time change, and may need an extra boost of sugar until the morning.
Bathroom Basket: I always make a bathroom basket each time we have a guest visit. You can make this a small or large basket depending on your preference. I add a few fresh towels and wash cloths, along with some essential toiletries. I also add the basics; toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, travel size shampoos and lotions, blow dryer, shower gel, chapstick, Tylenol, Tums, razors, facial cleanser, and hand sanitizer. P.S. I like to plug-in a night-light and have some sort of air freshener in the bathroom.
I adore this idea of using a vintage suitcase and all the items mentioned above into one area (snack, books, magazines, throw, handwritten welcome note, and the bathroom basket.)
Last but not least enjoy decorating your guest room. Your guests will love having somewhere to stay that is inviting and relaxing. So make sure you add those special extra touches, that make it feel like home. You want your guests to feel welcomed and relaxed. Each and everything you do will be appreciated, and will not go unnoticed.
Please stay tuned for my farmhouse accessories article coming soon. All those beautiful accessory ideas to add that perfect farmhouse touch to your home.
Dear Best Friend,
I can’t believe it has been so long since we last talked…. I never thought that this would happen to us. So much has happened since the last time we talked and I feel like you have missed everything. I often want to pick up the phone and call you, the time just seems to keep passing. It seems so crazy that we aren’t as close as we once were, but I feel like I could still trust and tell you everything without a second thought. You have always been my “person” and that will never change.
You have always been the one I could count on for well just about anything. You were my go-to person when I needed to cry, yell, shout, or share both good and bad news with. You Are My Person that will never change.
So I am the first to admit, I think I have an addiction to Rae Dunn Coffee Mugs (Ok let’s be honest all Rae Dunn products). The addiction starts with picking up the occasional mug when you run across one. Then followed by a tea-pot, canisters, cheese plates, OMG anything you can get your hands on. I guess if you look on the bright side I could be addicted to something far worse so this isn’t all that bad right? This is the moment when my husband is literally rolling his eyes wondering why we need 15 coffee mugs( when I am the only one who drinks coffee in the house).
So let me set the stage….a few months back I wondered on to a military wife Facebook page and it changed my entire world. The name of the group is “White Walls” and sharing the most awesome home decor is the game. I could spend hours scrolling the page looking at the most amazing home decor. These ladies also share my love and passion of “Target”. They show how they decorate and stage their homes and find the most amazing pieces. Now I am not going to lie I WANT IT ALL!! Continue reading
I am one of those people who wave at others when I drive by. I am also the person who let’s the car go, who is trying to merge into traffic. The person who talks to strangers everywhere I go (Drives my husband CRAZY)….
What happen to the good old days where people talked to their neighbors. Everyone was always outside working in their yards exchanging tools and cookware. What happened to the days of sitting on the back of the truck, on a dirt road, watching the sun set.
I know you go to work each day and probably see women along the way, dressed so nicely, hair and makeup done to a T. With their high heels and dress clothes looking smoking hot. Then you come home each night to me, your simple and frumpy haired wife rocking her pony-tail, cut off t-shirt, and my yoga pants.
Well to be honest these feet haven’t seen high heels since my 20’s. There are so many reasons my hair isn’t curled and I’m sporting a 5 minute make-up job. So many reasons my hair is messy and I have stained jeans. Being comfortable is just my thing. I am a mom and most days it looks like I just rolled out of bed, and trust me I probably did. Most days I look like I have the flu, and feel like it to. But this letter is to explain the reasons you should love my pony tail and be grateful for all it represents.
