Everything’s A Bit Of A Fixer-Upper! Fix These As Soon As You Move Into Your New Home

Everything is a bit of a fixer-upper, especially you when you moving into a new home. For all of the positives a new home environment can bring, as soon as you’ve unlocked the door, and stepped into your new home, there will be some things that need doing right away before you can relax and unpack. Let’s have a look at some of these…

Changing The Locks

Put simply, you don’t know who has been there before you, and you don’t know who has a copy of the key and if those copies spawned additional copies!. For peace of mind, getting the locks changed will be a big help, and you can give copies of the keys to loved ones only.

Inspecting The Property

You need to look at the property from an impartial perspective. You don’t know if you need to get the plumbers in because there’s a leak that’s been quietly building up in the weeks or months since you last saw the place, and it doesn’t hurt to look at the property from top to bottom, just so you can get an idea of what needs fixing in general. Hopefully, there aren’t many dangers in the property, but purely cosmetic issues that need fixing.

Get The Property Clean

No doubt you’ve got a million ideas on how you can spruce up your home, but isn’t it a good idea to make sure your home is cleaned to your standard? If there’s already carpets in the property, and the previous owners were smokers, then giving that carpet a good steam clean will be a great way to lift the odor.

Locate The Circuit Breaker Box

You don’t want there to be a power cut as soon as you’ve moved in, so make it a priority to find the circuit breaker and look at which switch corresponds to each area of the home. While undertaking your inspection, it’s always worth looking to see if there are any issues with electrics, which will be a lifesaver, especially if you’ve got toddlers who like to put their fingers in sockets!

Relationships

while you might not consider this to be something you need to fix, if you have moved into a new property, you need to ensure that the relationships you have with your neighbors get off to a good start. You can’t underestimate how a good relationship with your neighbors can make life easier during your time there. It’s a shame that, in today’s world, lots of people don’t know their neighbors, but if you move to a quiet area or a small street, there’s no harm in knocking the door and introducing yourself. If they don’t want to speak to you ever again, then you can’t say you didn’t try. But on the other hand, you may have started a relationship with someone who can collect your parcels, help you out when you’re in a bind, and provide useful information about the local area.
